Background
Crimson Global Academy is a co-educational, private secondary school (year 9-13) based in Auckland. The school is a part of a network of schools that provide online schooling to students in more than 50 countries. Crimson Education, the parent company of Crimson Global Academy, was established in 2013. The New Zealand campus was first established in 2019.
With a focus on international curriculum qualifications, the school places a heavy emphasis on preparing students for the tertiary setting (particularly international ivy league institutions). Crimson Global Academy is a registered online Cambridge International School and is also accredited by Pearson Edexcel to offer the International GCSEs and A-Levels, as well as by the College Board to offer the Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum.

Finally, the government does provide grants to private schools through the private school subsidy funding pool (Ministry of Education, 2024a), which is distributed at a set rate per student. According to Circular 2022/08 – Private School Subsidy Funding 2023 the rates for 2023 were (Ministry of Education, 2022):

Programming
The programming offered by Crimson Global Academy focuses on the International GCSEs and A-Levels, as well as by the College Board to offer the Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum. Along with these international curriculums, Crimson Global Academy also provides courses in Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (which focuses on digital citizenship and online safety, study and examination skills, health and well-being, relationships, and university and career planning) and Global Citizenship (which focuses on social justice and equality, identity and diversity, globalisation and interdependence, peace and conflict, human rights, power and governance, and sustainable development).
Crimson Global Academy utilises a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction. The bulk of the instruction is conducted in this synchronous manner. Each academic course meets for three to five hours per week (usually no more than one hour per day) in a synchronous fashion using Zoom.
Additionally, asynchronous resources are also shared using Canvas as a learning management system. While an increasing amount of the assessment is undertaken using Kami, some Google Docs or writing by hand and then scanning the responses are still used in some subject areas. We also have a two camera policy for integrity purposes. Each academic course also has between three to five hours of asynchronous instruction each week. Teachers also use Slack for both synchronous and asynchronous communication.
Finally, Crimson Global Academy utilises a competency based approach to the courses that they offer.
