FLANZ 2026: Reflecting on an Inspiring Gathering in Ōtepoti Dunedin

As the dust settles, we look back on three unforgettable days at Otago Polytechnic in Ōtepoti Dunedin (7–9 October).

Grounded in our overarching theme, He tāngata (the people), the FLANZ 2026 Conference was a resounding success, a true celebration of community, innovation, and the shared passion for making ako accessible to all.

Keynotes & Presentations: Inspiring the Sector

Our keynote speakers set an incredible tone, delivering engaging, highly relevant addresses that challenged us to look beyond current horizons and rethink how we support the learners of tomorrow.

Across every stream, the quality of contributions was outstanding:

  • Presentations & Workshops: Packed sessions delivered actionable insights into technology-enhanced learning, pedagogy, and learner equity.
  • Posters: Vibrant display spaces sparked rich debates on frontline practical innovations and emerging research.

Whether exploring adaptive learning models, cultural safety in online environments, or practical tools for distance educators, every contributor tied back seamlessly to our core purpose: keeping he tāngata at the heart of educational technology.

Community & Connection

Beyond the formal programme, the heartbeat of the conference was found in the spaces between sessions. The ideal setting provided by Otago Polytechnic created a warm, inviting backdrop for delegate connections. From lively morning tea catch-ups to deep collaborative discussions, the conversations were engaging, collegial, and deeply personal. It was a refreshing reminder of the strength and warmth within our flexible learning community.
