Would you like to be recognised for making an outstanding contribution to flexible, open and online learning in Aotearoa?

Applications are now invited for the 2026 FLANZ Awards, which will be presented at the FLANZ Conference 2026: He Tāngata networking event on 8 October 2026.

The FLANZ Awards are open to individuals or groups in New Zealand who have completed a project that meets the awards criteria. This includes relevance to the conference theme “He Tangata”, including one or more of:

• Theme 1: Our Practice
• Theme 2: Our Curriculum
• Theme 3: Our Changing World

Awards are given for original projects that advance understanding of best practice in flexible, open and online learning in New Zealand. The value of the prizes is up to $2000.

FLANZ is also supporting emerging researchers in the field with up to two Postgraduate Awards.

The Postgraduate Awards are open to postgraduate students enrolled in any New Zealand based tertiary institution. Value is up to $500 towards travel and accommodation costs to attend the conference.

This year’s theme recognises that while technologies, systems and policies continue to shift, it is people – ākonga, kaiako and whanau – who remain central to meaningful learning experiences. The conference will explore how we can strengthen connection, equity, innovation and quality in flexible learning contexts.

Topics will span digital transformation, assessment innovation, academic integrity, learner engagement, and the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies such as AI.

The deadline for submission of award applications is Monday 31 August 2026.

Successful applicants will be notified by 25 September 2026.
