Perceptions of Online Learning and Teaching: invitation to participate

Dilani Gedera, Director, Learning and Teaching at the Business Faculty at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and Associate Professor Dianne Forbes, Deputy Head of School, Division of Education at the University of Waikato (UoW) are conducting a study exploring perceptions about online teaching and learning in New Zealand’s tertiary education.

This research seeks to understand how perceptions and misconceptions shape experiences and attitudes toward online education, particularly in the post-COVID-19 era. By participating in this study, you will contribute to a broader effort to inform institutional policies and instructional strategies that support effective and inclusive online learning environments.

We invite you to participate in this study if you are a tertiary student, an academic staff member, or a member of the general public with an interest in online education. Your participation in this study will involve completing an anonymous online questionnaire. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary.

The purpose of this research

The purpose of this research is to investigate how common misconceptions about online learning influence student engagement, instructional design, and institutional decision-making in New Zealand’s tertiary education. The study will explore how digital learning is perceived, particularly in relation to sociocultural beliefs and systemic factors. The findings will be used to enhance institutional understanding and promote evidence-based improvements in digital education.
