Aotearoa Tertiary AI Network Launches with Inaugural Hui
The Aotearoa Tertiary AI Network (ATAIN) community of practice came together for its inaugural hui on Friday, 26th September, marking an exciting milestone for tertiary education in Aotearoa.
Following an introduction by the ATAIN Steering Group and FLANZ President, the participants joint four lively break-out room discussions. They focused on the priorities for NZ tertiary educators in the age of AI, identified in the ATAIN survey: AI Literacy Development, Assessment, Learning Design, and Equity and Inclusive Practices.
Key Themes
Several powerful themes emerged: the need for clear institutional guidance and policies, building capability for staff and students to use AI effectively and responsibly, centering student support in implementation decisions, ensuring ethical use that balances technology with academic integrity and equity, and developing practical, actionable resources.
Looking Ahead
ATAIN will continue with fortnightly sessions through the end of the year. The next hui on Friday, 10th October at 1pm will feature discussion of TEQSA’s publication on assessment reform in the age of AI, along with community resource sharing.
The ATAIN community invites all tertiary education professionals interested in learning together and identifying effect ways of harnessing AI in education to join our fortnightly online meetings.
